A Little Bit Of History...
The 2010 World Cup, a global football competition hosted by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), is the 19th World Cup to take place. The first World Cup was planned as far back as 1928, when FIFA's president at that time looked to plan an international football competition that was outwith the Olympics.
The very first World Cup Was hosted in 1930 in Uruguay. There were a total of only thirteen nations taking part in this World Cup (a fraction of modern numbers, with 32 teams taking part in 2010), all of which were trying to become the first team to lift the cup.
In the final on 30th July 1930, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4 - 2 to be crowned champions of the tournament for the very first time.
Since then, popularity and participation in the tournament has grown dramatically. The World Cup Tournament is held every four years and is now regarded as the height of international football.
